Well I wouldn't exactly say you can't...you used to be able to spin a persons floppy drive through an AIM (that used to give people a scare ) but i know you knew this since you have an AIM website .
I think this can be done through javascript...although i am not sure...i know you can do this in visual basic and in java...but i don't know...maybe it can be done....maybe not...:err:
But just one question, why would you want it to be done...

I am 99% sure you can't do this with just HTML and JavaScript. You can definatley do it with some program, that maybe could be run localy through the cd. But, in general it would lead to to many security hazards so I would guess no. I don't know of any programs that would do this. But the internet is bound to have a virus or some other program that will do this. You could take a look at the source for it and then copy that part to achieve your goal. Then maybe call the program through the webpage. To tell you the truth, I don't think it would be easy, or usful...I also wonder what you need this for.

I would have to agree, that would propose a few security hazards. I am sure that there is a program that will do it if you run it from your computer (although I can not tell you I know where to find this program) but as far as someone else doing it I don't think they can.
As for elements post, yeah you used to could spin the A: (aka Floppy for most people) using AIM but that is in older versions which most people no longer run because AIM anoys the heck out of you to update it .

I just wanted it so that i could say:
Every computer has a cup holder. CLICK HERE to find out.
I just wanted the CLICK HERE to be a link to open the cd drive. My friend went to a site that did that. But he doesnt rember the URL, so I was just checking here. did not help too much though

you can still do it in all the 4.7 versions, and the 4.8 beta out...
for the cd rom, use shazbot or ******* (heh, not telling you the last one)
but, with shazbot, you send them the exe, (trojan), then get them to open it, (right click, "open -----.exe") and then, you have to get them into a chat room...

You don't even need to do that. Somewhere in the computer's ROM is a code that opens the drive, starts the motor etc. When I'm logged into my web editor program, I can click on a hyperlink that opens the drive, prompts for a disc and then reads/writes it before letting me have it back. All you need to do is write a piece of code that calls this ROM subroutine and put it into an onClick script. Finding the exact routine address might be a little tricky, but since most computers have their drive systems in the same basic place (easier to manufacture), once yopu've got it then that should work for other computers too. Deviating from the point a little, but fun.
