    What is the use of Canonical tag?

    Hi,

    Canonical is a value written in ‘rel’ field of the link tag. If search engines come across a webpage with canonical tag in it, they understand that it is the duplicate version.A URL is provided in the link tag which points to original version of the content.

    Yes you are right but best use of this tag is in website related to shopping cart or anywhere we have to sort ascending descending. Purpose of this tag is to avoid being penalize by Google for using duplicate content.

    The canonical tag is part of the HTML header on a web page, the same section you'd find the Title attribute and Meta Description tag. In fact, this tag isn't new, but like nofollow, simply uses a new rel parameter. For example:

    <link rel="canonical" href="http://www.seomoz.org/blog" />

    Hi Friends,

    The canonical tag is an essential tool in the search engine optimization (SEO) toolbox. It is often a better solution that a 301 redirect in cleaning up duplicate content issues. A canonical link element is an HTML element that represent (rel="canonical").
