How to create a search bar inside my site

I have been asked by my boss to create a search bar inside the company site. The limit is that the search bar should only index the files on our website. If our website is linked to any other sites, the search bar should reject it.

Spiders can get fairly complicated depending on the website, and fulltext searches can be (are) slow. I'd look into an application to do this for you. I'd also probably suggest looking to an alternate language to index the website, possible something that allows for multiple threads.
